Silane functionalised polyethylene and polypropylene were synthesised from the copolymerisation of a diene with ethylene or propene, respectively, followed by hydrosilylation. The silanol groups of the surface react with the chlorosilane or alkoxysilane groups introduced at the chain ends or as side chain groups. Studies were carried out on the interfacial adhesion by using an asymmetric double cantilever beam and microbond tests for the polyethylene/ glass and polypropylene/glass interfaces, respectively.
